چکیده

ABSTRACT Introduction: Traditional intermittent hypoxia training improves sport performance after short periods of exposure, but acute exposure to leads decreased intensity and technical quality. The solution overcome these negative effects may be perform efforts in normoxia the intervals between hypoxia, maintaining quality benefits hypoxia. Objective: This study aimed evaluate physiological responses during recovery high efforts. Materials methods: Randomized, one-blind, placebo-controlled study. Sixteen men performed a graded exercise test determine their maximal two sessions high-intensity interval training. could (HRT), FIO2: 0.136 or (NRT), 0.209. During two-minute ten one-minute efforts, peripheral oxygen saturation (SpO2), heart rate (HR), blood lactate ([La]), glucose ([Glu]) were constantly measured. Results: There differences HR (TRN = 120 ± 14 bpm; TRH 129 13 bpm, p < 0.01) SpO2 96.9 1.0%; 86.2 3.5%, 0.01). No [La] [Glu] TRN (4.4 1.7 mmol.l-1; 3.9 0.5 mmol.l-1) (5.2 2.0 4.0 0.8 mmol.l-1, 0.17). Conclusion: possibility including only as an additional stimulus training, without decreasing was evidenced. Level Evidence II; Randomized Clinical Trial Minor Quality.

Invited review: Physiological and pathophysiological responses to intermittent hypoxia.

This mini-review summarizes the physiological adaptations to and pathophysiological consequences of intermittent hypoxia with special emphasis given to the pathophysiology associated with obstructive sleep apnea. Intermittent hypoxia is an effective stimulus for evoking the respiratory, cardiovascular, and metabolic adaptations normally associated with continuous chronic hypoxia. These adaptati...

Chronic intermittent hypoxia alters ventilatory and metabolic responses to acute hypoxia in rats.

We determined the effects of chronic exposure to intermittent hypoxia (CIH) on chemoreflex control of ventilation in conscious animals. Adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were exposed to CIH [nadir oxygen saturation (SpO2), 75%; 15 events/h; 10 h/day] or normoxia (NORM) for 21 days. We assessed the following responses to acute, graded hypoxia before and after exposures: ventilation (V̇e, via baromet...

Cardiorespiratory and cerebrovascular responses to acute poikilocapnic hypoxia following intermittent and continuous exposure to hypoxia in humans.

We tested the hypothesis that intermittent hypoxia (IH) and/or continuous hypoxia (CH) would enhance the ventilatory response to acute hypoxia (HVR), thereby altering blood pressure (BP) and cerebral perfusion. Seven healthy volunteers were randomly selected to complete 10-12 days of IH (5-min hypoxia to 5-min normoxia repeated for 90 min) before ascending to mild CH (1,560 m) for 12 days. Seve...

Effect of stimulus cycle time on acute respiratory responses to intermittent hypercapnic hypoxia in unsedated piglets.

To determine whether stimulus frequency affects physiological compensation to an intermittent respiratory stimulus, we studied piglets (n = 43) aged 14.8 +/- 2.4 days. A 24-min total hypercapnic hypoxia (HH) (10% O(2)-6% CO(2)-balance N(2) = HH) was delivered in 24-, 8-, 4-, or 2-min cycles alternating with air. Controls (n = 10) breathed air continuously. Minute ventilation and temperature wer...
